Discover the Alligator Farm: A Hidden Gem in Florida

“I went to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm thinking it was a cute little roadside attraction. Reader, there were 24 species of crocodilians staring back at me.”

I’ll be honest — I did not do my research before showing up to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm. In my head, I was expecting another overpriced Florida tourist trap: a few gators behind a fence, a gift shop, and a $30 ticket I’d regret buying.

I was very, very wrong.

The moment we walked through the gates, we were greeted by genuinely friendly staff — and then immediately hit with something I wasn’t prepared for: crocodilian species from all over the world. I didn’t even know that many species existed. And before I could even process that…

Have you ever seen an albino alligator?

Because I hadn’t. And now I can’t stop thinking about it.

Maximo, the crocodile is legendary here and his size does not dissapoint.

The nose on this Crocodile is really really neat to see.

The photos I have shown are just a FEW crocodila species the “Alligator Farm” has! You can spend several hours here reading all about each creature and asking the friendly staff questions. Throughout the day you can attend Alligator feeding sessions where the staff feed them. You can even buy a handful of pebbles and feed some of the alligators yourself.

Here is a photo of one of the trainers teaching us about how the Alligators are trained. The trainers are very passionate about what they do and LOVE to answer questions.

The “Alligator Farm” also has unique species of birds, snakes, and other creatures. You can also get the opportunity to see wild Spoonbills, Egrets and herons here. These wild birds choose to stay at the “Alligator Farm” and can leave and stay as they please.
